Everything You Need to Know About Parasite

No matter how bad his movies are in recent times, when Shah Rukh Khan talks about something, you better listen. The actor has been making waves recently for his appearance on David Letterman’s talk show on Netflix, My Guest Needs No Introduction. The actor wowed not just the host, but also the audience with his innate sense of wit and intellect, making us wonder what exactly goes wrong when it comes to his sense of scripts. He also doesn’t have a really bad taste in cinema as we heard him fanboying about Back To The Future‘s Michael J Fox. Or when he recently tweeted about Parasite, one of South Korea’s best films of the year, that is bound to win the Academy Award in 2020 for Best Foreign Language Film. Sorry, Gully Boy! Shah Rukh Khan Watches Korean Movie ‘Parasite’ On His Kids’ Recommendation, Calls It a ‘Delightfully Discomforting Film’.

So what is Parasite? Parasite is the latest film directed by the acclaimed film-maker Bong Joon-ho. Released in the country on May 30, 2018, Parasite had its official premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on May 21. The movie received a lot of appreciation at the screening and it even won the prestigious  Palme d’Or award through a unanimous vote, also becoming the first South Korean film to win the award.

The premise of the film is about a poor family whose lives get intertwined with a rich family, leading to some crazy situations. It is a black comedy that transcends genres as the movie deals with the parasitic tendencies of the characters to latch on to people they are obsessed with. Parasite deals with class inequality and the frustrations and anguish that rise out of it, with an undercurrent of humour.

The movie stars  Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam.
